Symposium Details
We are accepting 500-word abstracts at the button above titled "Submission Portal" for poster presentations, paper presentations, and data blitz/flash talks (see below for descriptions). See the button below for our review criteria:
These criteria will also be used to select three winners for the "Student Symposium Research Award" among each educational designation (i.e., one undergraduate, one post-bacc, and one graduate student will be selected for this award).
People of all educational and career stages are welcome and encouraged to attend, and projects submitted by undergraduate, post-baccs, and graduate students will be considered for presentation.
Presenters of underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Presenters from all locations are welcome to apply. The working language of the symposium will be English. If you are interested in presenting and require special accommodations (e.g., for vision or hearing), please email us at abctstudent@gmail.com and we will do our best to meet your needs. Please note that the symposium will be held in Eastern (i.e., New York City) Time, with specific times to be determined.
It is NOT necessary to be a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, Student SIG, American Psychological Association, APA Division 37, or any of our other partner groups to present or attend this Symposium.
We are seeking volunteers to review submitted abstracts! If you are interested in reviewing, please sign up here:
Types of Presentations
Paper Presentation: Paper presentations will be given by a single presenter communicating original or review research. There will be four paper presentations grouped within one-hour sessions. Each presenter will have 10 minutes to present: 8 minutes of presentation followed by two minutes for Q&A. Presenters may use visual aids (e.g., PowerPoint slides) to present their research. Each group of presentations will be introduced by a discussant, who will also offer concluding remarks.
Poster Presentation: Poster presentations will consist of a one-page visual representation of original or review research using text, charts, graphs, and/or other visual aids (i.e., electronic poster). There are no specific size requirements for poster but they should be legible to a virtual audience. Poster presentations will be posted to Twitter using the ABCT Student SIG's account with #ABCTStudentSymposium2024. We recommend using the "Better Poster" format.
Data Blitz/Flash Talk: Data blitz/flash talk presentations will consist of brief presentations of original or review research by a single presenter. Each presenter will have approximately 5 minutes to present, followed by 1-2 minutes for Q&A. Presenters will be allowed the use of up to five PowerPoint slides to present their research and convey relevant background information, methodology, results, and interpretations.
Research Awards
One student from each level (e.g., one undergraduate, one post-bacc, and one graduate student) will be recognized for outstanding research with a Student Symposium Research Award!
